人们现在开始回避“社群”(community)这个用词,更倾向于说“住在一起”(living together)。对人们来说,重要的不是谁在‘圈里’,谁在‘圈外’, 而是如何校准社交之间的距离——不是一劳永逸的校准,而是变化有时。人们更需要一种科学,或一种艺术的方式来衡量社交中的距离。
People are now avoiding the term “community” and prefer to say “living together.” For people, the most important thing is not who is in the ‘circle’ or who’s out of the circle, but how to calibrate the distance between social interactions——not a calibration once and for all, but a time for a change. People need a scientific, or an artistic way to measure social distance.
这个现代都市中的“乌托邦”跨越了两个交叉的领域:友情和社群。这其中关于距离的问题牵扯到空间、观念、身份、个体差异的概念。很大程度上,西方哲学传统把友情作为快乐生活的中心,各方有相似的兴趣、习惯和观念,从而有助于友情的培养。
The “Utopia” in this modern city straddles two intersecting fields: friendship and community. Among them, the issue of distance involves the concept of space, ideas, identity, and individual differences. To a large extent, the Western philosophical tradition regards friendship as the center of a happy life. All parties have similar interests, habits and concepts, which contribute to the cultivation of friendship.

一个人只有在独处时才能成为自己,谁要是不爱独处,那他就不爱自由,因为一个人只有独处时才是真正自由的。一个人在独处时可以把所有的人群、社会、时代抛在脑后,在独处中获得无限的知识、智慧、丰富、快乐。不必依赖人群,自己就可以创造一个完美的世界,自得其乐。
A person can become himself only when he is alone. If he does not love being alone, he does not love freedom, because a person is truly free only when he is alone. A person can leave all the crowds, society, and times behind when alone, and gain unlimited knowledge, wisdom, abundance, and happiness in solitude. Without relying on the crowd, people can create a perfect world and enjoy themselves.

Black gives the triangle a stronger geometric form. This sense of geometry makes people separate from the state of isolated self and begin to pay attention to the surroundings. In this solid and stable form, everyone sitting around the table can maintain an independent posture, and can blend into the atmosphere of the same field at any time, either looking at each other, looking sideways, or talking. This creates a free and indulgent way of working.
共情指的是个体在与人交往的过程中共享并理解他人的情绪状态的倾向, 包括认知共情和情绪共情两种成分。现实生活中的共情总是发生在一定的具体情境中, 受到情境因素的影响。情境的公开性或私密性、意义性等均在不同程度上影响了共情的产生或共情反应的强烈程度。在同一个空间下的共情更容易使人纵情。
Empathy refers to the tendency of individuals to share and understand the emotional state of others in the process of interacting with others, including cognitive empathy and emotional empathy. Empathy in real life always occurs in certain specific situations and is affected by situational factors. The publicity, privacy, and significance of the situation affect the generation of empathy or the intensity of empathy to varying degrees. Empathy in the same space is easier to indulge.

Philosophy and the original ecology of life are together. From the perspective of the shared world, objectivity does not exist. We can “see through others” because others will choose to make themselves public. The openness and sharing of this self together constitute the inner world. The understanding of others will become the basis of our understanding of the internal world of ourselves, which enables us as individuals to be understood by the world we need to face, and therefore exist. Therefore, the shared world is far away from reason, it goes to the inner world.

人们对于世界的存在,可以通过对他人的关心来定义。我所做的一切,甚至是我所考虑的一切,都是对我生命中的所爱的一种关怀,即使他们不在场,我的行为都依然如此。我的行为的意义在于展示我对他们的关怀。因为我们都是人类,而人性并不是自然给予的,而是建立在我们的需求上的。这就是所谓的“共享世界”。
People’s existence in the world can be defined by caring for others. Everything I do, even everything I consider, is a kind of care for the loved ones in my life, even if they are not present, my behavior remains the same. The meaning of my behavior is to show my care for them. Because we are all human beings, and human nature is not given by nature, but based on our needs. This is the so-called “shared world”.
如果深陷日复一日的生活中,人们将没有思考生活本身的理由和时间。人们不假思索重复的动作, 碎片化的思考习惯, 窗帘的形状和不用看就摸得到的栏杆,如今都因为过于熟悉而变得陌生。
If you are stuck in daily life, people will have no reason or time to think about life itself. People’s unthinking and repetitive actions, fragmented thinking habits, the shape of curtains and the railings that can be touched without looking at them are now unfamiliar because they are too familiar.

Space is not a place where we live, nor is it a place we are familiar with. Space is a stage and a temporary stage. There is no past in this stage, and its only goal is to achieve indulgence.
人与人之间应该保持什么样的距离,是哲学家和设计师一直在思考的问题。在忙碌的生活中,我们常常不会审视这样的习惯。但如果现在的我们没有了日常社交,是否就离一种真实的生活更近了一步?如果我们做一个思想实验,抛开对社群的已知,它的替换又会是什么?或许值得思考。
What kind of distance should be kept between people is a question that philosophers and designers have been thinking about. In busy lives, we often do not examine such habits. But if we now have no daily social interactions, are we one step closer to a real-life? If we conduct a thought experiment and put aside what we know about the community, what will its replacement be? Maybe it is worth thinking about.
