The Naturalness of Urban Places

This “back-shaped” building with one basement and four floors above the ground is mainly white, gray and light beige in appearance, fully integrated into the natural environment of Pudong Cultural Park. The color tone of the architecture is also similar to that of the “big bookcase” – Pudong Library, which is a hundred meters away. Located on the lawn of the atrium, the five areas form a back shape, and are closely connected by wide wind and rain corridors.

The overall design of the building focuses on “natural style”. The Y-shaped white columns, green and white walls, and log-colored tables and chairs give people a fresh feeling of being in the forest. Large transparent glass windows allow the whole building also appears transparent and bright.

The rotation, deformation and dislocation of the blocks better realize the mutual penetration and space sharing between the building and the city, increase the interaction between the blocks, and present tension. The atrium square, open wind and rain corridor, and lawn can provide sufficient space for physical exercise for sports clubs and teenagers and children in need.

The Spirit of Nature Intervening

Pudong New Area Youth Activity Center, as a vibrant life body, will attract, infect and impress people with its lively, wise, rich and diverse cultural atmosphere, and become a cultural beacon for young people in Pudong District.

By maximizing the shared public space, the concept of the cultural urban environment is extended to every building in the park. In addition to sharing resources through functional complementarity on the first floor, the Art Museum and the Youth Palace have also established a more special connection.

Culture Oasis for Teenagers

There are more than 500,000 teenagers and children in Pudong District. In order to meet their needs in art, technology, moral education, young pioneers, sports and other activities, the new venue of the Pudong New Area Youth Activity Center, focuses on “new” and “bright”, divided into four functional areas.

Starting from multiple dimensions such as teaching, practice, expansion, and life, the designer tries to create a youth activity center that encourages communication and exploration, and integrates into nature and life. It will lead young people to enrich themselves, promote communication and experience nature in learning and entertainment.

The structure of the interior space of the building is like a growing “art tree”. Through the spread of the outdoor “wisdom tree”, many indoor public spaces are connected in series, thus becoming a three-dimensional indoor art-themed space.
